Event Security / Door Supervisor

Location: Various event venues across the UK
Reports to: Event Security Manager
Please Note: This is an Ad Hoc position, successful applicants would be given the opportunity to work as and when specific jobs are available.

Job Aims & Objectives:

  • Ensure the safety, security, and smooth operation of events by enforcing security protocols and providing a visible security presence.
  • Protect guests, staff, and property from potential threats, while offering excellent customer service to enhance the overall event experience
  • Maintain order and handle emergencies with professionalism, minimising disruptions and ensuring a secure environment.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Event Preparation:

  • Attend pre-event briefings to understand specific security protocols, emergency procedures, and layout details of the event.
  • Perform security sweeps of the venue before, during, and after the event to ensure no unauthorised items or individuals are present.
  • Familiarise yourself with emergency exits, first aid stations, and other critical points within the venue.

Access Control:

  • Monitor entry and exit points, checking tickets, passes, and identification to ensure only authorised individuals are granted access.
  • Manage crowd control at entrances, exits, and key points throughout the event to prevent overcrowding and ensure a safe flow of foot traffic.

Guest Interaction:

  • Provide a welcoming and helpful presence, offering directions, answering questions, and assisting guests as needed.
  • Address guest concerns or complaints professionally, escalating issues to the Event Security Manager when necessary.

Incident Response:

  • Identify, monitor, and respond to any suspicious activity, unauthorised access, or potential threats swiftly and effectively.
  • De-escalate confrontations and manage conflicts or disturbances discreetly to minimise impact on the event.
  • Document and report all incidents, ensuring accurate and detailed records are maintained.

Emergency Management:

  • Be prepared to act decisively in the event of an emergency, such as fire, medical incidents, or security breaches.
  • Assist with evacuations, provide first aid, and coordinate with emergency services when required.
  • Ensure all emergency procedures are followed, and that guest and staff safety is prioritised at all times.

Surveillance and Patrolling:

  • Conduct regular patrols of the event area, including parking lots, backstage areas, and high-traffic zones, to deter and detect security breaches.
  • Utilise surveillance equipment as needed to monitor key areas and identify potential risks.

Bag and Security Checks:

  • Carry out searches of guests, bags, and personal items at entry points in accordance with event security policies.
  • Ensure prohibited items are confiscated or dealt with according to venue procedures.

Collaboration with Authorities:

  • Liaise with law enforcement, fire marshals, and other relevant authorities to coordinate security efforts and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Assist in investigations or legal proceedings by providing reports or witness statements as needed.

Customer Service:

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and courtesy in all interactions, ensuring that guests feel secure and valued.
  • Support event staff in managing crowd control, seating arrangements, and other logistical aspects of the event.

Health & Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including those specific to the event venue, to prevent accidents and ensure a safe environment for all attendees.
  • Immediately report any safety hazards or violations to the Event Security Manager.

Post-Event Duties:

  • Assist in clearing the venue and ensuring all guests have safely exited the premises.
  • Participate in post-event debriefings to discuss any incidents, suggest improvements, and review overall performance.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Event Security Manager to contribute to the success and security of the event.
  • Skills & Qualifications:
  • Valid SIA Licence: Required for the role of Event Security Officer.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in event security or a similar role is highly advantageous.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication to effectively interact with guests, staff, and emergency personnel.

Customer Service:

  • Strong focus on providing a positive and safe experience for all event attendees.
  • Conflict Resolution: Ability to handle difficult situations calmly and professionally, with a focus on de-escalation.

Physical Fitness:

The role requires standing for extended periods and may involve physical intervention if necessary.

Attention to Detail:

Strong observational skills to detect potential security risks and respond appropriately.
